New Cities or Ghost Towns? Naya Raipur Proves CM Jagan's Stance on Amaravati Correct

5 Mar, 2024 21:03 IST|Sakshi Post

Naya Raipur, the new capital of Chhattisgarh, which was built from scratch in 2012, still remains a ghost town. The Capitol Complex is brightly lit, but there are hardly any people there except for a few security guards. The nearby offices, like the New Raipur Development Authority (NRDA) and the police headquarters, are also empty. Building new cities with a whopping cost burdens the state's exchequer, and these new cities/capitals often turn out to be ghost towns.

Most of the 5,000 employees who work here still live 25 kilometers away in Old Raipur. This includes Chief Minister Raman Singh, who comes to the Secretariat office at least twice a week, along with his cabinet members and bureaucrats. Naya Raipur is still mostly deserted.

Urban experts believe that cities like Gandhinagar and Naya Raipur require many years to develop fully. Simply building roads and buildings isn't enough to create a city. We must also focus on trade, investment, and the economy, opine experts.

This situation sheds light on Amaravati as well. Amaravati quickly learned from Naya Raipur's experience. While former CM Chandrababu wanted to build Amaravati capital from scratch for his personal gains, CM YS Jagan took a remarkable decision. Thanks to YS Jagan, who averted a major disaster by calling for inclusive growth and development.

In fact, this is why CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been voicing his opinion honestly on Amaravati and advocating for the inclusive growth of the state. CM Jagan's decision to make Visakhapatnam the Executive Capital and Kurnool the Judiciary Capital has been proven to be a welcome move. He stated that Amaravati remains the Legislative Capital.

During the Visakha Vision program, CM YS Jagan called for uniform and inclusive growth in all regions of the state. He also reiterated his stance on Amaravati and Visakhapatnam, stating that he is not against any particular region or city but against the misuse of public funds to build a city from scratch instead of exploring alternative options.
