It is a scorching summer but also an election time which no political party can afford to miss. Every day counts as Andhra Pradesh will go to simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in the next 40 days. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has embarked on a 21-day Memantha Siddham (we are ready) bus yatra seeking a re-election.

Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan, who faced humiliating defeat in both Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram seats in 2019 assembly elections, is now contesting from Pithapuram assembly constituency. Hitting the campaign trail, the actor-turned-politician launched his ‘Varahi Vijaya Bheri’ yatra from Pithapuram seat. He campaigned in a few areas sitting atop his vehicle but fell indisposed during his yatra in Tenali on Wednesday.

Due to the simmering heat in parts of the state, Pawan Kalyan suffered from high fever and the doctors advised him to rest for a few days. As their leader is out of action, the party leadership announced the cancellation of Pawan’s programmes in Tenali Assembly constituency and Nellimarla seat. The party also said the future programme schedule will be announced at a later date.

Jana Sena party has a poor track record in electoral politics. The party is weak at the booth level and the infighting over the allocation of seats and pre-poll tie up with TDP is further damaging the party’s strength at several places. The party and its poll candidates were looking up to Pawan Kalyan’s support thinking his star power would help them to win the elections. However, the party’s only star campaigner is indisposed and continues to be in bed rest.

Pawan Kalyan’s party had fielded 8 candidates for Telangana Assembly elections, however, due to lack of support from the party president, all candidates lost the elections. Jana Sena leader should pull up his socks after his recovery from fever. Without hard work and connection with the voters, the party will yet again fail to open its account in the simultaneous polls.
