TDP splits into three warring groups in Undi

9 Apr, 2024 19:10 IST|Sakshi Post

Dissent is brewing within the Telugu Desam Party  in the Undi Assembly constituency. Party chief Chandrababu Naidu seems to be alienating loyal party workers by favoring leaders who recently switched allegiances. The anger among party activists is palpable as tickets are being allocated to leaders who changed parties just ahead of assembly elections in the state. What are the real reasons behind the division within the TDP in the Undi segment?

The opposition alliance in the combined West Godavari district is on the verge of collapse. The TDP’s chances of winning the upcoming polls are dwindling day by day due to the disarray among the leaders. Naidu's recent visit to the district has further fueled the turmoil. TDP cadres were shocked when Naidu sidelined the sitting MLA from Undi, Mantena Ramaraju, in favor of YSRCP rebel MP from Narsapuram K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, whom he inducted into the party during his tour of Narsapuram and Palakollu.

Naidu held a meeting with the assembly candidates from West Godavari and Machilipatnam parliamentary constituencies in Palakollu, where it is reported that the Undi seat was finalized for Raghurama Krishna Raju. While Ramaraju was initially named as the candidate in the first list and has been campaigning with his wife, Naidu's afterthoughts have sparked outrage among the TDP cadre.

Supporters of Ramaraju reached Naidu's camp in Palakollu and staged protests, blocking and gheraoing his convoy. They demanded that the ticket be given to Ramaraju and warned of serious consequences if it went to Raghurama Krishna Raju. This has made the issue of ticket allocation a hot topic in the constituency.

Former MLA Shiva Rama Raju, who had hoped for a ticket from Naidu, has now turned into a rebel candidate and is campaigning independently. With Naidu signaling that Ramaraju may not get the ticket, the Ramaraju faction has threatened to destroy the party in the Undi constituency. Meanwhile, the TDP leadership’s attempts by Rama Raju to pacify his followers have been futile.

The Ramaraju faction has made it clear that they will not tolerate Raghurama Krishna Raju's candidacy from Undi seat. Despite activists protesting and demanding Naidu's decision, they were left disappointed as he did not respond. With the arrival of Raghurama Krishna Raju, the TDP has now been divided into three factions. It remains to be seen how the party’s future events unfold in the assembly constituency.
