New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday said the mining baron and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy can travel to his home town  Bellary in Karnataka and meet his daughter.

“As it is reported that the daughter of the applicant has delivered a child recently and now she is at Bellary, the applicant is permitted to stay at Bellary up to November 6, 2022,” the court said.

Gali Janardhan Reddy, an accused in a multi-crore illegal Obulapuram  mining case, had sought court’s permission to visit and stay for a month in Bellary to meet his daughter who had recently delivered a baby. The apex court allowed him to stay till November 6 in Bellary district.

The Apex court said the FIR in a multi-crore illegal mining case was filed 11 years ago and the trial in the case has not begun yet. A bench of Justices MR Shah and Krishna Murari directed the special court to conduct trial on a day-to-day basis and also asked them to complete it in six months.

Janardhan Reddy was jailed for over three years in the Obulapuram mining case. He has been out on conditional bail since 2015. As per the bail conditions, the mining baron is prohibited from visiting Bellary in Karnataka and Anantapur and Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh. He was also directed to surrender his passport before the concerned trial court and not to leave the country without the permission of the trial judge.
