Father-in-law vs Daughter-in-law: Cricketer Jadeja Responds to his Family Feud

9 Feb, 2024 18:47 IST|Sakshi Post

Ravindra Jadeja, the Indian cricketer renowned for his all-round skills, finds himself embroiled in family discord as his father, Anirudhsinh, speaks out against alleged strained relations with his son and daughter-in-law, Rivaba Jadeja.

Their marital journey began in February 2016, with Jadeja's engagement to Rivaba, a mechanical engineer, followed by a lavish wedding ceremony in Rajkot. However, according to Anirudhsinh, the relationship between father and son soured after the marriage. Anirudhsinh claims that Rivaba demanded control over family assets within three months of the wedding, causing a rift in the family dynamic.

The situation has escalated to the point where Anirudhsinh hasn't seen his granddaughter in five years, attributing the estrangement to interference from Rivaba's family in managing familial affairs. Rivaba's foray into politics adds another layer to the saga. Joining the BJP in 2019, she secured victory in the 2022 Gujarat assembly election from the Jamnagar (north) constituency on her political debut. Rivaba's background in mechanical engineering and her previous role in the Karni Sena's women's wing provide context to her political journey.

In an interview with Divya Bhaskar, Jadeja’s father said, "Do you want me to tell you one truth? I have absolutely no relation with Ravindra and his wife, Rivaba. We don't call them, and they don't call us. The issues started after two or three months of their marriage.

“I currently live alone in Jamnagar, while Ravindra resides in a separate bungalow of his own. He lives in the same city, but I don't get to see him. I don't know what magic his wife has done on him," Jadeja’s father said in an interview with Divya Bhaskar.

"He is my son, and it burns my heart. I wish I hadn't gotten him married. It would have been better if he hadn't become a cricketer. We would not have to go through all this in that case," Jadeja’s father said.

"Within three months of the marriage, she told me that everything should be transferred to her name. She created a rift in our family. She didn't want the family and desired an independent life. I could be wrong, and Naynaba (Ravindra's sister) could be wrong, but you tell me, how can all 50 members of our family be wrong? There's no relation with anyone in the family; there's just hate."

"I don't want to hide anything. We haven't even seen the face of our granddaughter in five years. Ravindra's in-laws manage everything. They interfere in everything. They are making merry now because they have got a bank," Jadeja’s father added.

In response to the allegations, Ravindra Jadeja took to Twitter where he dismissed the accusations as scripted and nonsensical, condemning attempts to tarnish his wife's image. Despite refraining from addressing the accusations publicly, he expressed denial and disappointment at the situation.

Meanwhile, promising updates seem to have emerged from the National Cricket Academy regarding the recovery progress of Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the second Test in Visakhapatnam in the ongoing test series against England due to varying reasons. Jadeja's potential inclusion in the third test at his home ground Rajkot hinges on the assessment of his hamstring injury by the team management.
