Hyderabad's 'Night Economy' Dreams Set In Motion

Hyderabad: The Congress government in Telangana, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is planning to promote the 'night economy' in Hyderabad city. The initiative is aimed at boosting nightlife and businesses in the state capital.

According to reports, the state government's plan involves allowing commercial establishments and eateries to remain open 24 hours as part of the 'night economy' initiative. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to prepare a roadmap for introducing the concept in the city.

While the move is expected to generate additional revenue for the government through taxes and improve employment opportunities, concerns have been raised by the police department over potential law and order issues and alcohol-influenced incidents if nightlife is allowed to flourish unchecked.

To ensure an uninterrupted and active nightlife, the police may have to intensify patrolling and security measures in the city. However, the government believes that the 'night economy' could also promote tourism near Hyderabad's iconic Charminar and other tourist places.

The idea of a 'night economy' in Telangana gained momentum before the state assembly elections last year when the labour department allowed shops and restaurants to operate 24x7 by paying an annual fee of Rs 10,000. Major cities like Mumbai have already embraced an active nightlife culture.
