Hyderabad: Despite Hyderabad police advisory, over 3,000 cases of drunk driving were booked on the night of New Year 2024 celebrations in the city. As part of the elaborate security arrangements for the first January celebrations, the police conducted a special drive under the limits of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates on Sunday night.
The police teams had set up checkpoints at various places in the city and conducted breathalyser tests through the night. As per the details, over 1,200 cases of drunk driving were registered in Hyderabad commissionerate, while 1,241 cases were filed in Cyberabad commissionerate and 517 cases in Rachakonda police limits.
Under the Cyberabad police limits, 1,241 persons, involving 938 bikes, 21 autos, 275 cars and 7 heavy vehicles, were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol. The breathalyser tests showed that 151 individuals had a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) count above 200.

Telangana State Beverages Corporation reported liquor sales of worth Rs 658 crores three days ahead of the new year celebration. On New year’s Eve, the 30,000 cases of liquor and 35,000 cases of beer was lifted from 10 alcohol depots of the state government.
